Dead is better than Alive
Dead always out ranks living, doesn't it? Specifically those who tragically die young. Munroe, Kennedy, Diana, Cobain, Phoenix - they are all revered to such high levels because their life was cut short. No living person can compete with a dead guy! And so the trend continues with Heath Ledger getting the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor when if wasn't the strongest nominee (Both Robert Downey Jnr and Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder were better and I never caught the others). The majority of his performance was good and if was hampered by an overly long script but I believe Awards should always go to the best. That said he's a sure thing to get the Oscar equivalent as, except for once every decade, they go to the most popular choice at the time (that's why Titanic has any!).
